  Polish Government is to introduce special ID in the first half of this year that will offer privileges to ethnic Poles without Polish citizenship. The document, called the Polish Card (Karta Polaka), will take the form of a plastic ID card with personal data.
  The Polish Card offers privileges to Poles living in countries, which do not recognise dual citizenship. The privileges includes reimbursement for expenses incurred to buying Schengen visas, access to Polish school and universities, public transport discounts, easier access to grants and scholarships, and the right to work and run business in Poland.
  The Polish Card will be issued by Polish consuls and will be valid for 10 years, extendible on request. Those applying for Polish Card are require to have at least some knowledge of Polish, and must prove that at least one of their parents or grandparents or two great grandparents were Polish, or present a certificate from a Polish organisation in their country stating that they are active in promoting the Polish language and culture.

[14.08] - The news from Jaroslaw Matusiewicz:   During our family reunion in Volozin area, apart from enjoying through participation in local "medicine" consumption, followed by "salo" and "ogurcy" and later visiting Belarusian bath, small village cemetery in Dubova was partialy clean.
  Cemetery in Dubava, is laying around 2 km from village of Tsiskowszczyna, right on 1939 former border between Poland and USSR, approximately 800m from main road. It is very difficult to determine numbers of graves as some back to middle of 1800 are completely destroyed and some are new, erected in last few years. In our "cleaning operation" approximately half of cemetery was clean from bushes, rotten trees and high grass. We discovered nine Matusewicz graves and several other local families: Sobolewski, Hurski, Borowski, Hrolowicz, Januszkiewicz, Kaczanowicz, Pozniak, Anisowicz.
  According to local people from Tsiskowszczyna and Barzdi, Matusewicz families were buried in Dubova and Volma cemetery, which we also visited and discovered two graves.
  We would like to come next year in August to Dubova and finish job: clean rest of cemetery, put around some fence and record names from stones. Anyone Matusewicz or not is welcome, for more info please contact Jaro Matusiewicz in UK jaromat@hotmail.com.

Hospitality of accepting side (Radoslaw, his close relatives and familiar) was indescribable. Unique excursions to 12 cities and places of southern Poland were organized for us. It has allowed us to see and take pleasure of unique beauty of ancient city architecture, castles, palaces, churches. Undoubtedly, the huge quantity of positive emotions which we have were received during trip, will be remain in memory of visitors from Belarus for a long time.

B.Matusevich - member of VKP(b) since 1919, worked as a head of department Promsyreimport in the trade Mission of the USSR in England (in the trade Mission from 1936 to 1939), the expert on the exchange goods of all-union Association "Promsyreimport" of Narkomvneshtorg. He was arrested at March 18, 1940. He was accused of secret-service work on the English investigation, participation in anti-soviet the right-trotsky organization.
  By the way, on the same site I found out mentions about other our namesakes appearing in "Stalin lists": Vasil Seliverstovich (Kazakh SSR, Alma-Ata), Victor Boleslavovich (Moscow region, RSFSR), Vladimir Vladimirovich (Yaroslavl area, RSFSR), Mark Moiseevich (Byelorussian SSR) and Michael Stepanovich (Rostov area, RSFSR).

Recently Harry Lew from Wisconsin, USA has written to us. His grandfather had surname Bartoszewicz. According to Mr. Lew, he has always been interested, who first of his relatives has arrived to New world from Europe. He found out that in 1888 Ignatz Matuszewicz has moved to USA from Volozhin's area of Belarus. Now Mr. Lew tries to find out, whether he is related with Matuszewicz surname.
  One of these days Joey Westfall from Halifax, Pennsylvania, has left the message on our forum. He wrote, that his great-grandfather - Jan Walejko - has arrived to USA presumably from Poland or Lithuania in the beginning of the last century together with wife Rozalia Ciszewska. The maiden name of his great-grandfather's mother was Matusiewicz. Her name was Maryanna. She was born about 1867. Mr. Westfall hopes that somebody who reads our site will help him in making up his family tree.

[6.07] - On one of the Byelorussian sites devoted to novelties of the Russian-speaking Internet, I have found article about the project (which at present does not work) of popular Russian writer - satirist Michael Zadornova. In a material, in particular, it was told: " In the section "Biography" you will find a lot of the interesting information. For example, that " Michael was born in Latvia in 1948. Mother - nee Elena Matusevich - from the ancient nobiliary family originating from Polish king Stefana Batorija". Unfortunately, till now, I has failed to establish communication with M.Zadornov for reception of more full information. However, work in this direction is conducted.

[3.07] - The Russian newspaper "Trud - 7" (№ 116 - circulation of 1 580 000 copies) has published the material of nobody R. Guseynov's "The Verdict is executed " in which the author, in particular, writes: "There were cases, when, for example, in 1960th years while searched for bloody Byelorussian maniac Matusevich, two innocent persons were executed:" In this connection, amazes irresponsibility of the journalist and a negligent attitude to the duties of editorial group of "Trud": all people having the minimal knowledge on a history of the USSR know, that a surname of " bloody Byelorussian maniac" is Mihasevich, but not Matusevich. We have reacted operatively to this scandalous fact, and 3.07 have sent in edition of the newspaper the appropriate letter with the request for the publication exact data.
